Choosing between providing shelter and providing food, between paying rent and paying utility bills – these are choices that no family should ever have to make.

In Canada, over 3.2 million people do not have access to safe, decent and affordable shelter. This is the reality in a Canada that once prided itself as a world leader in affordable housing. A Canada that believed it had an obligation to house every Canadian in a safe and decent home. We need to be that Canada again. We’ll get there by insisting that housing be a right for all. Let’s open the door to all Canadians looking for a home, and ensure there’s no one left out.

With more than 1.5 million Canadian families in need of affordable housing right now, this need must not only be heard, but addressed. That’s why Habitat for Humanity Canada is calling on you, and all Canadians, to join us in bringing the issue of affordable housing to the forefront. Together we can urge discussion, action, and change across the country, so that every Canadian can know the life-changing power of owning a house, of being at home.
