Habitat
for Humanity Canada is unable to assist with housing needs in the short term in
Attawapiskat, given our nearest operation is more than 1,000 km from the community.
Sadly, Attawapiskat is one of many Aboriginal communities facing urgent issues
of inadequate housing, healthcare, and education. Given this, Habitat is
committed to helping Aboriginal families in need across Canada through a long
term, holistic strategy to improve daily living conditions. We are currently
working with Aboriginal leaders and organizations including Shawn Atleo
and the Assembly of First Nations (AFN), among others, to better understand
these unique needs and identify solutions. As a committed contributor, we will
work alongside local leadership to support their strategy to enhance housing
for Aboriginal communities, including Attawapiskat.
We welcome you to read more about our milestone partnerships, future plans and
achievements to date in helping Aboriginal peoples and families improve their
lives. We will continue to post updates on our progress throughout 2012.
