Building Futures through Technology
Microsoft Software Donation Helps Habitat Reach Full Potential

Technology truly has the capacity to advance social and economic opportunities that will transform people's lives and empower communities. No one understands that more than Microsoft.

An Amazing Tool to Advance Social and Economic Development in Canada and Abroad
As the world’s largest software company, Microsoft has the capacity to help improve the lives of people everywhere.  Through an Unlimited Potential software grant Habitat for Humanity Canada has received in excess of $1.3 million dollars worth of software and licenses for its affiliates across Canada.

Local Leaders and the Impact of Community Involvement
This incredible donation is due to the commitment of Charlie Russel, a former board member at HFH Sunshine Coast, whose tenacity and dedication in nominating Habitat for this software donation was a clear manifestation of Microsoft’s core strengths and values.  It is their belief that when technology meets passionate people the potential to make a difference in the world is unlimited.

Software to Increase Homebuilding Capacity
Part of Habitat for Humanity’s continued success in Canada is a result of all the hard work of more than 73 grassroots affiliates made up of staff and volunteers working to eradicate poverty housing tirelessly in their communities coast to coast. This generous donation of software will allow Habitat affiliates to improve their productivity, increase their ability to collaborate and be more effective, and extend their impact. Whether fundraising, securing permits, managing build sites, selecting partner families, administering mortgages or keeping track of volunteers, this donation allows affiliates to maximize their time, and reach their full potential to serve even more families in need.

We are very grateful to Microsoft Canada and their generous donation in support of affordable housing and Habitat for Humanity!

Microsoft Empowering the Next 25 Years of Habitat Homebuilding
With nearly 90,000 employees and almost 700,000 partners in over 100 countries, Microsoft has an important role to play in helping advance social and economic opportunities for communities in need. The grant to Habitat was provided as part of their Unlimited Potential program, which aims to bring the benefits of information and communications technology to underserved communities around the world. Their work focuses on transforming education, fostering local innovation, and enabling jobs and economic opportunities. In 2009 alone, Microsoft donated over US$560 million in cash, services and software to nonprofits around the world. Their work with Habitat this year will empower future Habitat homebuilding efforts by impacting the families we serve in the years to come. We hope to build on this donation by actively engaging more employees in homebuilding across Canada.
