Who We Help

Habitat for Humanity Canada is Committed to Helping Low-income Families Caught in the Vicious Cycle of Poverty
Thanks to your donations and volunteer support, Habitat for Humanity Canada is able to give a hand up to low-income families in need of safe, decent and affordable shelter.

The families that you support through Habitat for Humanity Canada are caught in a vicious cycle, making too much at low-paying jobs to take advantage of programs such as subsidized housing, yet too little to properly provide for their familes. Many are forced to make impossible choices between such essentials as shelter and food, between paying rent and paying utility bills. These are choices no family should have to make.

Habitat for Humanity Canada offers families who qualify and are able to repay an interest-free mortgage the hand up they need to break the cycle of poverty. We illustrate this problem in our award-winning PSAs (below).

Criteria for Choosing Partner Family Homeowners
Future homeowners must contribute 500 hours of sweat equity, share the labour of homebuilding, and participate in valuable training and preparation sessions. In return, their lives are transformed by the positive experience of working with their community and by the many benefits that come along with homeownership.
