Now in the midst of another fantastic build season, we’d like to share news on the people we help, and who help us, in fulfilling our vision of a world where everyone has a safe and decent place to live.
What we’ve found true of those who have been a part of Habitat – be it through volunteering, working with colleagues to raise funds, or partnering as a Habitat homeowner – is that almost everyone becomes a passionate advocate of our cause; energetic to spread the word of Habitat, or eager to dispel myths, such as that our partner families are given their home free of cost.
If you are one of these people who like to share stories of the work you’ve done with Habitat, we want to hear from you! Tell us your Habitat story by putting pen to paper (or keystrokes to keyboards) and sending it to habitat@habitat.ca. You may be contacted to have your story featured in one of our nationwide publications!
Enjoy the rest of the summer, and keep building! Habitat for Humanity Canada
P.S. Please feel free to share these stories by passing this eNewsletter along to a friend.

The Impact of a Safe, Secure Place to Live
For a single mother of two working three jobs while putting herself through school, finding out that the apartment she rented was being sold was not welcome news. Finding a place where her daughter, Emily, who was born with Down syndrome, could live wasn't easy.
"There just weren't a lot of options for a single mom with two kids, one who is in a wheelchair" says Christina Ryan.
Financially stressed in one of Canada's most unaffordable housing markets, Christina turned to Habitat for Humanity Calgary.

Habitat for Humanity Writing Contest Winner Named One of Guelph's 40 Under 40
The Guelph Mercury's 2011 40 Under 40 award recipients all have something in common: they all did something extraordinary enough that people noticed. Among those honoured this year include a rights activist, a tennis star, a soul singer, and an exceptional Grade 6 writer, who was also Habitat for Humanity's 2010 Meaning of Home contest winner.
In case you missed our previous coverage, Karson Simpson from Guelph, ON, wrote the winning entry for this year's Meaning of Home contest. Her entry, Hope, won her the opportunity to devote a $60,000 donation from Genworth Financial Canada to the Habitat for Humanity affiliate of her choice, a laptop for her own use and pizza party for her entire school.
In addition to the $60,000 donation, Karon's winning entry has helped spread the word of Habitat nationwide.

Watch the Incredible Video that Came Back From the Trip!
Camera in-hand, Global TV reporter/videographer, Sharon Bates, departed May 21st to travel to Honduras, where she met 17 other Global Village volunteers, who together would nearly complete a home for Habitat partner family Annabel, Carlos and their daughter, Michelle. The home, which the family has since moved into, replaced their previously home that did not provide enough space for the expanding family, and was unsafe due to a mud brick construction.
