An alarming 1.5 million families in Canada – 3.2 million Canadians – do not have a safe, decent and affordable place to live. And according to the UN, 1.6 billion people worldwide are in core housing need. This is why Habitat for Humanity Canada is taking steps, while asking you, and all Canadians, to lend your support and your voice to help make adequate housing available to families in need. We know that affordable housing has a tremendous positive impact on Canadians’ health, education levels and social welfare. HFHC wants to ensure more people can reap those benefits.

Habitat for Humanity Canada believes that adequate housing is a critical foundation for the long-term social, economic and environmental health of our communities - and our country. Along with our affiliate partners and supporters, we do our best to address community and individual family needs. But, given the scope of the problem, and our resources, the solution requires a much larger and integrated strategy. Though all orders of government acknowledge that adequate housing impacts the health of their constituents, communities and country, Canada remains the only G8 country without a national housing strategy. In order to truly affect change, we encourage all levels of Canadian government to collaborate to make housing a national priority.
