"Home is where life takes root, and hope can grow. Having a safe and affordable place to call home is important to Canadian families and their communities. Safe and affordable housing is particularly critical for our most vulnerable citizens and individuals in need. CMHC is proud to be the lead partner with Habitat for Humanity Canada in helping to find creative housing solutions for Aboriginal families."
Karen Kinsley, President, CMHC

On September 21, to the accompaniment of traditional drumming and dancing, an exciting dedication took place at the home built for an Aboriginal family in the First Nation community of Alderville, Ontario. This was the first-ever Habitat home built in a First Nation community in Canada, and came about as a partnership between Habitat for Humanity Northumberland, Alderville First Nation, and Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation.

"By partnering with Habitat for Humanity Canada, we’ve been able to effectively engage the public in a discussion around the need for affordable, healthy housing and homeownership in Canada. We’ve been able to motivate individuals of all ages to get involved and generated invaluable goodwill for Habitat and for our organization.”
Peter Vukanovich, President and CEO, Genworth Financial Canada

For many Canadians, it’s not easy to answer the question, "What do you love most about your home?" In fact, 1.3 million Canadian families are in need of decent, affordable housing right now. In response to this Candian housing crisis, mortgage insurance provider Genworth Financial Canada is lending its voice, volunteer resources and financial assistance to a new program with Habitat for Humanity Canada (HFHC), called "The Path to Home.”

"In an age where Corporate Social Responsibility is an expected business practice, rather than a rarity, it is important for Canada’s businesses to look more closely what it means to "give” in this environment… Holcim has paid a lot of attention to improving environmental performance and community relations in recent years, and our involvement with the HFHC 360 Built Smart Partnership will allow us to continue to do that going forward."
Paul Ostrander, CEO, Holcim Canada Inc.

No longer does corporate giving involve an arm's-length financial donation that gets logged in the books as another transaction and nothing more. Today, companies are creating partnerships that have a multi-layered benefit that extends beyond the handing over of money.
