World Urban Forum

From June 19-23 almost 10,000 participants from 160 nations gathered in Vancouver, Canada for the third session of the World Urban Forum. This biennial UN-HABITAT event on urban sustainability examines and identifies solutions to the critical problems facing cities around the globe. Information: www.wuf3-fum3.ca
Habitat for Humanity had a significant presence at World Urban Forum III, including:
• 3 staff from Habitat for Humanity Canada, and 22 representatives from Habitat for Humanity International
• a large and informative Habitat for Humanity display in the Vancouver Convention and Exhibition Centre
• a number of networking events featuring Habitat for Humanity case studies from around the world
• a special event on June 17 featuring Habitat for Humanity Greater Vancouver’s “Burnaby Build,” which was attended by Mrs. Anna Tibaijuka, Executive Director of UN-HABITAT, and our own Jonathan Reckford, CEO of HFHI
• a special event on June 20 involving the construction of a house, which has since been shipped to Louisiana as part of Operation Home Delivery – the HFH response to Hurricanes Katrina and Rita
The above special events generated a great deal of media attention which, along with our presence and participation at “WUF3,” did a great deal to raise our profile internationally.
