Thanks to the past support of our donors, more than 2,000 Canadian families now have homes. Homes you've helped them earn.

Through your ongoing support, you'll help provide new, innovative and proven ways to help more families in housing need find a safe and affordable home to live. We hope you 'll consider helping others.

Dear Habitat for Humanity supporter,

From everyone at Habitat for Humanity, we'd like to say thank you for the past support you've shown us. With your help, and the help of others like you, we have been able to assist thousands of Canadian families in housing need. We ask if you would consider making the dreams of even more hardworking Canadians become a reality, as there are still many low-income families who need your support.

Nearly one in seven Canadians live below the low-income line.
One out of every nine Canadians are living in unacceptable housing.
One in six Canadian children live in poverty.

Every month, families who are caught in the vicious cycle of poverty are forced to decide between putting a roof over their head or food on the table. Their lives are constantly plagued by stress and uncertainty. They need your help. And through your support, the families that are prepared to help themselves will finally have the tools they need to do just that.

It's not a hand out the families you help are ready to work for that help, and this is what we ask of them in return.

Families who qualify understand that we're asking them to work for their new home in appreciation of your donations and the volunteer effort required. It instills a sense of pride in the accomplishment and they truly cherish the gift they've earned. They are required to make interest-free mortgage payments based on their monthly income. Also, families must volunteer 500 hours of their time building their new home and the homes of others. This is what we call "Sweat Equity", and we think it's the right thing to do.

We believe that no one should live in unhealthy conditions, or be forced into a life of uncertainty, stress and poverty through unaffordable shelter costs. There are far too many families who don't qualify for subsidized housing, but are still unable to pay for basic necessities after they pay their rent. And when rent takes up to 70% of a family's income, it leaves little left for basic necessities, like medication, or children's clothing, lunches and school field trips.

You can help these families through our time-tested model for positive change!

BUY Habitat homes are sold with favourable financing terms to hardworking, low-income families who are in need of affordable housing and are ready to work for it.

The family, along with our unbelievable volunteers, builds simple, decent housing using donated materials.

All mortgage payments are reinvested back into the Habitat program so more homes can be built for more low-income families in housing need.

Donations like yours help us fund the purchase of land, and help cover the cost of licensed tradespeople.

Did you know our ReStore program is celebrating its 20th birthday?

ReStores are building supply stores that accept and resell quality new and gently used building materials. The inventory is always changing, as items are donated daily by corporate and private donors.

From humble beginnings with the first store in Winnipeg, Manitoba, the innovative, "made in Canada" ReStore concept has spread to hundreds of locations across Canada and the United States.

By shopping at a ReStore, you're making a socially-conscious decision not only are you saving money due to low prices, you're helping more low-income families, as funds generated support Habitat builds in your community, and the environment, as materials are diverted from landfills. Click here to find the ReStore nearest you, or for a list of commonly accepted items if you have potential items to donate.

With your ongoing support, we can continue to make a difference.

Just as our volunteers continue to donate their time, we need our generous supporters to reach out to us. Donations are vital for us to continue helping families in need. As the price of housing rises across the country, there are more and more families who need a helping hand. Together, we can dramatically change the lives of the families that need it most.

Once again, thank you for your continued support. It means so much to us, and so much more to those we help.
